Early Intervention

This program embraces a family-centered approach which ensures young children with disabilities and their families the supports and services necessary for the child's growth and development.  Families of children ages birth to three who have concerns about their child's development are eligible to apply for this program.  Anyone can make a referral for Early Intervention services by calling the Central Referral site Washington County Birth To Three Services at (740)374-4954.

Supports and services are unique to the needs of every family.  When a family is referred for services, an evaluation for eligibility is completed.  After eligibility is determined, each family receives a comprehensive assessment.  From this assessment, an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) is formulated which targets the needs of the family and child.  Early Intervention supports and services are provided to families within natural environments and routines by professional developmental specialists.  Strategies used are designed to build upon the family's strengths and wishes.  Ancillary services such as speech therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and aquatics are also available.

Preschool

Ewing School offers six half-day preschool classes for children with and without developmental delays.  The Program operates four days per week and is staffed by teachers certified in Early Childhood Special Education.  Children with special needs who are between the ages of 3 and 6 may attend Ewing 's program based upon their Individual Education Plan (IEP) and referral by their local school district.  In addition to classroom learning activities, children may receive speech, physical and occupational therapies according to their needs. In addition, each classroom has swim times in the warm water pool at Ewing .

Typical Partners are an important part of Ewing 's Preschool Program.  The integration of children with and without delays allows each of them to learn from the other in a structured preschool environment.  The preschoolers without delays are selected following spring and fall screenings and pay tuition to attend. The next scheduled screening is scheduled for May 9, 2011. More information regarding the preschool screening.

School Age

Ewing School 's Program for students with multiple disabilities ages 6 to 22 years offers specialized instruction to assist students to acquire new skills in self-reliance and community involvement.  They are provided with a positive, nurturing environment which meets their educational and physical or medical needs.  The students in the school age classrooms also have scheduled swim times in Ewing ’s warm water pool.

Teachers in the school age classrooms are certified by the State of Ohio to teach students with multiple disabilities and severe autism.  Students may also receive a variety of therapies according to their needs.  The students are afforded community training and cultural opportunities.
